What this means to the end user is that actions like clicking on a link updates only the relevant section of the page instead of reloading the entire page. This results in both an increase in performance, as well as reducing the load on the server, since less data is required for each request from the browser. To see this advanced design in action, click on any of the links on this page, like the calendar and news blocks on the right. Advancing or reversing the month displayed in the calendar results in only the calendar itself being updated. Similarly, clicking the links on the news stories loads the news story into this main content area without reloading the entire web page. (Use the Home link in the main menu to return here after displaying a news story.) This increased performance and improved user experience is part of the trend sweeping web development often called Web 2.0.
